What is PRP?

Male and female pattern hair loss is a genetic problem that can leave you feeling embarrassed and helpless. Options like prescription drugs are often partially effective and carry the potential for unwanted side effects and surgical options can be expensive and do not treat the underlying problems. If you are experiencing premature hair loss or thinning hair, Grand Pearl Spa can help reverse your symptoms with PRP treatments which is an innovative, affordable, and natural procedure that helps improve your hair density using your body’s own blood platelets.

This treatment option offers the following benefits:

  • Increases blood supply to the follicle.
  • Increases shaft size (thickness).
  • Triggers and maintains the growth phase.
  • Controls hair growth cycle.
  • Decreases hair loss.

PRP Candidates

Healthy men and women who wish to improve their hair growth can benefit from PRP. However, you should not receive this treatment if you have an infection in the treatment area, have wound healing issues, or are pregnant or nursing. Please contact our office today to schedule a consultation appointment to determine if this treatment is right for you.

The PRP Treatment

Platelet-Rich Plasma, also known as PRP, is a high concentration of your own platelets in a small volume of plasma that contains various healing growth factors. Your growth factors and stem cells work together to reverse the miniaturization of the hair follicle and jumpstart dormant hair back into the growth stage.

Your PRP treatment will begin with a preliminary complimentary consultation to determine if you are a candidate for the procedure. If you are an ideal candidate, your first treatment will be scheduled.

You will arrive for your first treatment 45 minutes early for a simple in-office blood draw. The procedure itself will take approximately 30 minutes to complete. There is no downtime, although you may experience a mild headache or tenderness in the hairline within the first 24hrs.

Step 1:

Utilizing a specialized blood collection tube, a practitioner draws a small amount of blood similar to what is required for a basic lab test.

Step 2:

The tube is then placed into a centrifuge which spins the blood at a very high speed, causing the platelets to separate from other components of the blood.

Step 3:

Once the platelets are concentrated into the plasma they can be applied to the treatment area. Activation causes platelets to release essential growth factors and signaling proteins, which are responsible for the healing process.

What is PRP hair restoration and how does it work?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) hair restoration is a treatment where a patient's blood is drawn, processed to concentrate platelets, and injected into the scalp. These platelets release growth factors that promote hair follicle health, stimulate hair growth, and improve thickness.

Who is a good candidate for PRP hair restoration treatments?

Ideal candidates for PRP hair restoration are those in the early stages of hair thinning or experiencing androgenetic alopecia. It works best for individuals with mild to moderate hair loss and is not recommended for those with complete baldness.

How many PRP hair restoration sessions are needed to see results?

Most people see visible improvement after 3-4 sessions, spaced about 4-6 weeks apart. Maintenance treatments may be needed every 6-12 months to sustain results.

Is there any downtime or recovery period after PRP hair treatments?

PRP hair restoration has minimal downtime. Patients can return to their regular activities the same day, though it’s recommended to avoid vigorous exercise or hair washing for 24-48 hours.

How long do the results of PRP hair restoration last?

Results can last for up to a year or longer with regular maintenance treatments. Continued sessions are usually required to sustain the improvements in hair growth.

Are PRP hair treatments painful?

The procedure is generally well-tolerated, though patients may experience mild discomfort during the injections. Numbing agents or cooling techniques are often used to minimize any pain.

What are the benefits of PRP hair restoration compared to other hair loss treatments?

PRP is a natural treatment using the patient’s own blood, with fewer side effects compared to medications. It’s non-surgical, with minimal downtime and can be combined with other treatments like hair transplants.

How soon can I wash my hair after a PRP treatment?
