What is Dysport?

Dysport is a prescription injection formulated with abobotulinumtoxinA. It can be used to treat medical concerns such as muscle spasms (cervical dystonia and lower limb spasticity) or cosmetic concerns like signs of aging. At Grand Pearl Spa, we provide Dysport to achieve temporary improvement in the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines in adults less than 65 years of age. It is FDA-approved and considered safe for the treatment of glabellar lines (lines between the brows) in adults, though it can also be used off-label to address other signs of aging.

The Dysport Treatment Process

During your Dysport treatment, we will offer a topical numbing cream to help ensure you are comfortable during the process. However, many people do not feel that numbing is necessary, as the treatment is very tolerable. Dysport will be skillfully injected using a small syringe into the specific areas for correction. Dysport should be injected in a 5-point injection pattern with 10 Units/injection for a total of 50 units. The entire treatment process typically only takes 10-20 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the treatment area.

Dysport is indicated for healthy adults, typically between the ages of 18 and 65, who desire to reduce the appearance of glabellar lines. Safety Information

Some of the most common side effects of Dysport include headache, dry eye, injection site pain, or site skin reaction. More serious, though rare, side effects may include drooping eyelids, changes in the way your face normally looks, difficulty swallowing, trouble breathing, or muscle weakness. If these side effects occur, be sure to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

You should not take Dysport if you are pregnant or nursing, are allergic to Dysport or any of its ingredients, are allergic to cow’s milk protein, have had allergic reactions to any other botulinum toxin products, or have a skin infection at the planned injection site.

Additional precautions you should know about Dysport include the following:

• The dose of Dysport is not the same as that of other botulinum toxin products.
• Tell your healthcare professional about any and all of your medical conditions, your medical history, and all the medicines you take.
• Let your healthcare professional know if you have received any other botulinum toxin products, such as Botox or Xeomin, in the last four months or in the past.
